The American College of Prosthodontists (ACP) honored Dr. Susan E. Brackett with the Dan Gordon Lifetime Achievement Award at the Annual Awards Ceremony during the 51st Annual Session of the ACP, held virtually Oct. 26-30, 2021. This award is named after Dr. Daniel F. Gordon, who served in the U.S. Army during WWII and later went on to be a private practitioner and educator in the field of prosthodontics.

The Dan Gordon Award recognizes individuals who have contributed at the highest level to the welfare of the American College of Prosthodontists and the specialty of prosthodontics, dentistry, science, and health professions.

“After reviewing the list of past recipients of the Dan Gordon Award, I am especially grateful and humbled to receive this honor.” Dr. Brackett said, “‘Lifetime’ achievement recognition caused me to pause and reflect on my career, and I am proud to have had the opportunity to serve our specialty. I will continue to concentrate on mentoring and coaching younger individuals on the benefits and satisfaction of serving and promoting the ACP.”

Dr. Brackett graduated from dental school the year Dr. Dan Gordon served as ACP President and received her certificate in fixed prosthodontics and M.S. nine years later, in 1987.

During her specialty training, Dr. Brackett became aware of the importance of supporting the specialty by becoming active in the ACP. In the years following her prosthodontic raining, she served as an officer in the state section of the ACP, represented Oklahoma in the House of Delegates, and served on numerous committees and task forces. Dr. Brackett also supported the ACP Education Foundation’s (ACPEF) initial capital campaign, ultimately serving as co-chair of the Annual Appeal and later serving nine years on the ACPEF Board.

Dr. Brackett has held numerous positions on the ACP Board of Directors, ultimately serving as ACP President from 2016-2017.
