2021 Educator of the Year Award: Dr. Robert Taft
The American College of Prosthodontists (ACP) honored Dr. Robert M. Taft with the 2021 Educator of the Year Award at the Annual Awards Ceremony during the 51st Annual Session of the ACP, held virtually Oct. 26-30, 2021. This award honors dental educators for outstanding contributions to the welfare and advancement of the specialty of prosthodontics, overall achievement to academic dentistry, and contributions to the sciences and health professions.
“An award of any distinction from the ACP is an honor and a testament to the hard work we give every day to our specialty. I am so very humbled to receive such recognition as it is reflective of the team of professionals, I have been so fortunate to work with over the years.” Dr. Taft said, “My deepest appreciation to the ACP for this recognition.”
Dr. Taft is a Diplomate, Board Examiner, and Past President of the American Board of Prosthodontics, Fellow and Past President of the ACP, and has been an active member, holding numerous leadership positions within several other dental organizations.
Dr. Taft currently serves as professor and chairman of Hospital Dentistry at the University Hospital San Antonio, and interim Program Director of Graduate Prosthodontics, Comprehensive Dentistry Department at UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry. Previously Dr. Taft held several positions with the Navy, including Department Chair of Prosthodontics, and Dean at the Naval Postgraduate Dental School and also as Deputy Chief of the United States Navy Dental Corps from June 2011 to June 2013. Dr. Taft also served as the Specialty Leader to the Surgeon General for Postgraduate Dental Education from June 2006 to June 2011.
