The American College of Prosthodontists (ACP) honored Dr. Lyndon F. Cooper with the 2022 Dan Gordon Lifetime Achievement Award at the Annual Awards & President’s Dinner held at the 52nd Annual Session of the ACP on Nov. 4 in Austin, TX. This award is named after Dr. Daniel F. Gordon, who served in the U.S. Army during WWII and later went on to be a private practitioner in the field of prosthodontics.

The Dan Gordon Award recognizes individuals who have contributed at the highest level to the welfare of the American College of Prosthodontics and the specialty of prosthodontics, dentistry, science, and health professions.

“Prosthodontics is my profession, and the profession has been my 'home' for many years. This award offers a lens to focus on all the people I was honored to work with, to learn from, and to celebrate prosthodontics with.” Dr. Cooper said, “If it was not for my mentors, my co-residents, faculty peers and my wonderful students, my career would be very much empty. This award represents all the great things I have experienced professionally - be it research, education or patient care - with those wonderful people. I thank you all for recognizing the shared contributions to this wonderful profession.”

Dr. Lyndon Cooper is the Dean of the Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Dentistry. He was formerly the Associate Dean for Research and Head of the Department of Oral Biology at University of Illinois School of Dentistry, Chicago and served as Stallings Distinguished Professor of Dentistry, Chairperson and Director of Graduate Prosthodontics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Cooper is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics and served as the 2010 President of the American College of Prosthodontists and later he served as the Chair of the American College of Prosthodontists Education Foundation. Dr. Cooper remains active in research and patient care and is focused on enhancing dental education, providing for dental therapeutic excellence, and improving access to oral health care.
