Scruggs with the 2022 Distinguished Service Award at the Annual Awards & President’s Dinner held at the 52nd Annual Session of the ACP on Nov. 4 in Austin, TX. This award honors individuals who have made significant contributions to the welfare and advancement of the specialty of prosthodontics.

“It is an incredible honor to receive the ACP Distinguished Service Award.” Dr. Scruggs said, “Yet, it is very humbling to be in the company of the many great prosthodontic “superstars” that have gone before me.”

Dr. Paul E. Scruggs served as a dentist in the United States Army, where he recognized his passion for prosthodontics. He then attended the prosthodontic program at University of North Carolina (UNC). He continued his military career as a reservist serving a total of 24 years, retiring at rank of Colonel (O-6) and received the Distinguished Service Medal. He continued to teach at UNC as an Associate Professor part-time for over 25 years and maintained a private practice for 35 years. Dr. Scruggs has been heavily involved in many dental organizations throughout his career, including serving on the Board of the ACP and being an active participant in the ACP Education Foundation.
