The American College of Prosthodontists (ACP) honored Dr. William W. Nagy with the Major General (Retired) Bill B. Lefler Federal Services Award at the Annual Awards & President’s Dinner held at the 52nd Annual Session of the ACP on Nov. 4 in Austin, TX. This award honors individuals for excellence in areas of leadership, patient care, mentorship, and service to the community. Dr. Nagy was unable to attend the ceremony in person, and Dr. Lars Bouma accepted on his behalf.

“MG Bill B. Lefler was my commanding officer, mentor, and friend throughout my military prosthodontic career.” Dr. Nagy said, “I am forever grateful to the military for my prosthodontic training, developing my work ethic, the varied clinical experiences and teaching opportunities, and many other intangibles that have contributed to my “second career” in prosthodontic education. Receiving this award now brings me full circle back to my federal services roots and MG Lefler’s immeasurable influence on my life.”

Dr. William W. Nagy served in the U.S. Army Dental Corp for over 23 years, holds the rank of Colonel, was awarded the Surgeon Generals “A” designator, and was inducted into the Order of Military Medical Merit. He received his certificate in prosthodontics at Brooke Army Medical Center and is a Life Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics. Dr. Nagy was the Director of Advanced Dental Education Programs in Prosthodontics for 28 years. He also served as professor and director of the prosthodontic programs at Texas A&M University College of Dentistry, Marquette University School of Dentistry, and Brooke Army Medical Center.
