ACPEF Funding Highlight: Action and Innovation in Education
During this Volunteer Appreciation Week, we want to thank all of the amazing volunteers that lead and implement the projects that further the mission of the Foundation. Our volunteers raise funds, raise awareness, and do research that advances the specialty. Below is an outstanding example of the leadership shown by ACPEF volunteers.
At the Colgate North American Prevention Symposium in December, ACPEF leaders Dr. Fatemeh Afshari and Dr. Judy Yuan presented on the topic of Curriculum Innovation: Redefining Oral Health.
They have been leading a multi-year Colgate Palmolive-sponsored ACPEF project, which has resulted in this published white paper on innovation in dental education that sought a consensus on an overarching competency statement that embraces the need for prevention, supportive care, and maintenance. They are also currently managing a prevention pilot project at three universities. The article was a guide for the discussion at the symposium and there was a clear interest in an expansion of the pilot curriculum.
