ACPEF Funding Highlight: Recall and Home Maintenance Curriculum Framework

Colgate_news

As a continuation of efforts to develop a curriculum framework highlighting prevention, maintenance, and supportive care, the ACPEF recently launched a pilot program to implement recommendations outlined in this peer-reviewed white paper, published with generous support from Colgate-Palmolive.

Several competitive institutions applied, expressing their enthusiasm in curriculum innovation. Three schools have been identified to participate in this year-long pilot study include: the predoctoral program at the University of Florida, Gainesville; the predoctoral program at Roseman University; and the postdoctoral program at the University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston.

“Students will learn how to use our patient recall, maintenance, supportive care, and patient at home maintenance education program and how its use will help in providing successful long-term care. The ‘lessons learned’ from the initial evaluation period will be used to standardize all providers to support the stated competency domains and CODA standards from which students will be evaluated for competency,” said Dr. James Hupp, professor and Assistant Dean for General Dentistry Education at Roseman University.

Each school participated in a survey of their current curriculum based on student perceptions. The results of this survey will be used in developing and implementing a robust recall and home maintenance program. Thank you to the three participating schools, and to Colgate-Palmolive for the generous support.
