Mechanical vs. Biologic Implant Stability: Fundamentals for Achieving Initial Stability
8:10 - 8:45 P.M. CST
Edmond Bedrossian, DDS
University of the Pacific

Following this session, the attendee should be able to:

  • Discuss the surgical criteria and protocols for achieving initial stability of immediate implants.
  • Describe the clinical significance of insertion torque and ISQ values in determining implant stability.
  • Explain the need for establishing a surgical algorithm to avoid and manage intra-operative, as well as long-term implant complications.

This presentation will discuss the concepts of under-sizing, insertion torque, and implant design needed to achieve initial stability of immediate implants. Criteria to evaluate mechanical stability will be compared and contrasted with evaluation of biologic and long-term stability of implant reconstructions.

Biography: Dr. Edmond Bedrossian is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery as well as an Honorary member of the American College of Prosthodontists. He is a Professor and the director of implant surgical training at the University of Pacific's Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.
