Following this session, the attendee should be able to:
- Identify the benefits of an in-house lab, including quality control, patient service, and marketability.
- Describe the steps to design and maintain an in-office dental laboratory.
- Recall the advantages, challenges, and disadvantages of an in-house laboratory.
Prosthodontists can sometimes be dissatisfied with the quality of laboratory work they receive from commercial laboratories. This can be for multiple reasons such as barriers to communication, lack of accountability, and absence of guidance for the dental technician. Other challenges may include completion timelines and laboratory costs. This presentation will discuss the benefits of having an in-office dental laboratory and offer suggestions on how to implement one for your practice. A discussion of challenges and disadvantages will also be presented.
