Robotic-Assisted Dental Implant Surgery: A Team Approach to Incorporating Yomi into Clinical Practice

Robotic-Assisted Dental Implant Surgery: A Team Approach to Incorporating Yomi into Clinical Practice
7:30 - 8:00 P.M. CST
Sundeep R. Rawal, DMD, Merritt Island, FL
Don E. Tillery, Jr., DMD, Winter Park, FL

Following this session, the attendee should be able to:

  • Define robotic-assisted dental implant surgery.
  • Compare and contrast robotic-assisted dental implant surgery to other forms of navigational implant surgery.
  • Describe the componentry and the digital workflow associated with robotic-assisted dental implant surgery.
  • Compare the initial limitations of robotic-assisted dental implant surgery to today's limitations based on improvements that have been made since the release of the Yomi system in 2017.

Since obtaining FDA approval in 2017, the Yomi robotic-assisted dental implant surgical system has been available for clinical use and claims to allow improved precision in placement of dental implants with reduced morbidity. Similar claims of improved outcomes have been substantiated in robotic- assisted surgery in surgical specialties outside dentistry. As with many new technological advancements, there is a steep learning curve with challenges incorporating this technology into a working practice. Robotic-assisted dental implant surgery will be explained, and how a dental implant team can be inspired to embrace the technology will be demonstrated. In addition, how to avoid the pitfalls while climbing the steep learning curve in incorporation of this technology into a busy implant practice will be described. Some of the shortfalls of the technology and the progress that has been made since the release of the system to address these shortfalls will also be discussed.
