Who is P-I Persson?

You guessed it right! P.I. Brånemark's original name was Per Ingvar Persson. Few people are aware that he published his earlier articles in gross anatomy under his given last name, 'Persson'. Very soon, by late 1950's he had changed his last name to 'Branemark' literally translating to one "who breaks the ground." Today Branemark is not only used to denote the legendary person, it has also become a proper noun to refer to the popularly used 'Branemark implant' or the 'Branemark surgical retractor' and many more. Branemark's legacy is more than just in his name.
