Digital Tissue Preservation Concept
In the current Journal of Prosthodontics, Dr. Oliver Schubert and colleagues introduce a digital workflow that allows for fabrication and placement of a definitive custom abutment at the time of tooth extraction and guided immediate implant placement, thus preserving soft tissue anatomy.
The “digital tissue preservation concept” (DTPC) introduced in this article details the application of an immediate definitive custom abutment and an atraumatic digital impression technique. Applying the DTPC may contribute to soft tissue health and preservation and may reduce clinical effort. Merging abutment design data with intraoral scans is not limited to custom abutments in immediate implant placement but may prove beneficial beyond this indication.
