Effect of Bleaching Applications on CAD/CAM Materials
Now online in the Journal of Prosthodontics, Drs. Izgen Karakaya and Esra Cengiz‐Yanardag evaluated the effect of bleaching agents on optical and surface characteristics of resin nano-ceramic and polymer-infiltrated ceramic network CAD/CAM materials.
Sixty specimens were prepared from Lava Ultimate (LU) and Vita Enamic (VE). Three at-home and two in-office bleaching agents were applied. The authors used a calibrated spectrophotometer to take color measurements at baseline and after bleaching and an Atomic Force Microscope was used to analyze surface topography and surface roughness.
They concluded that bleaching had significant effects on the optical properties of LU and VE and the color of these CAD/CAM materials was affected by the contact time with bleaching agents rather than concentration. Bleaching applications had no effect on the surface roughness and topography.
