Fabrication of a Toe Prosthesis with Paintable and Interchangeable Nail
Now online in the Journal of Prosthodontics, Drs. Amanda Colebeck, Paul Canallatos, Terrence McLean, Laura Catanese, Edward Pawenski, Mark Burke, and Maureen Sullivan report on the successful fabrication of a prosthetic great toe with an interchangeable, paintable nail.
The major challenges in designing this prosthesis were having adequate surface area coverage on the foot for application of adhesive and mechanical retention from the patient’s shoes and creating an acrylic toenail that could be removed and painted.
The case presented in this report is an example of how traditional maxillofacial prosthetic fabrication techniques can be applied to other circumstances for a successful prosthetic outcome.
