Major General Bill B. Lefler Federal Services Award: Dr. Thomas Girvan
The American College of Prosthodontists (ACP) honored Dr. Thomas Girvan with the Major General (Retired) Bill B. Lefler Federal Services Award at the Annual Awards Ceremony during the 51st Annual Session of the ACP, held virtually Oct. 26-30, 2021. This award honors individuals for excellence in areas of leadership, patient care, mentorship, and service to community.
This award is presented to individuals who are an active or retired member of the Public Health Services, United States Air Force, United States Army, United States Navy, United States Coast Guard, or Veteran Administration.
“This is ultimate award for a lifelong federal service prosthodontist as General Bill Lefler was the epitome of ‘service before self’ and will always be the shining star of federal service prosthodontists.” Dr. Girvan said, “I am extremely honored to be receiving this award.”
Dr. Girvan graduated from the University of Oregon Dental School in 1977 and completed a Prosthodontic Residency with the USAF in 1985. He is a Life Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics and a Retired Life Fellow of the ACP. Dr. Girvan was also in leadership and was an active member of several dental organizations, including serving on the ACP Board of Directors for several years.
Dr. Girvan retired after over 50 years of federal service on Oct. 31, 2021where he served as Director of Dental Laboratory Operations for the VA Office of Dentistry in Washington D.C. with duty location in Dallas, TX.
