Managing Excessive Gingival Display Using a Digital Workflow
Now online in the Journal of Prosthodontics, Drs. Walaa Magdy Ahmed, Amandeep Hans, Tyler V. Verhaeghe, and Caroline Nguyen report on a technique to manage excessive gingival display by lengthening clinical crowns using a digital workflow. This digital approach decreases the likelihood of the need for post‐surgical modifications, thus shortening the treatment duration.
The patient described in the report, presented with short clinical crowns due to a combination of altered passive eruption and attrition. The crown lengthening procedure was planned to increase the clinical crown heights, reduce the excessive gingival display and to enhance the esthetics.
This technique article illustrates the use of digital technology in a variety of applications, including smile design, CL, diagnostic setups, preparation guides, digital scan and implant planning in a workflow.
