New Classification of Periodontal and Peri-Implant Diseases and Conditions Released
The American Academy of Periodontology has published a comprehensive update to its periodontal disease classification, including a recategorization of various forms of periodontitis, the development of a novel staging and grading system for periodontitis, and the inaugural classification for peri-implant diseases and conditions. The section on peri-implant conditions includes hard and soft tissue implant site deficiencies associated with tooth loss, as well as notes on proper care and management to avoid inflammation-driven complications.
The complete update has been published as open access at the Journal of Periodontology. Chairside guides and practice resources are also available.
