Prosthetic Rehabilitation of a Repaired Cleft Palate with Magnet Retained Removable Prosthesis

JOP_3-24

Now online in the Journal of Prosthodontics, a clinical report describing the prosthodontic management of a patient with a repaired cleft lip and palate with significant maxillary hypoplasia using a two-part hinged magnet retained removable prosthesis.

A 37-year-old man was referred for a prosthodontic evaluation about possible treatment options available to improve his dental esthetics. The case was complex and there were significant concerns about food trapping underneath a potential prosthesis and retention.

By utilizing a two-part denture technique, the patient’s significant undercuts were able to be utilized for retention in conjunction with the magnets and the fit and number of teeth across the arch provided sufficient bracing to the teeth involved to prevent significant damage.

The laser-sintered frameworks produced for this case, demonstrate the technological capabilities of this fabrication method in producing an accurate prosthesis with good physical properties resulting in high patient satisfaction.
