REDESIGNED ACP MESSENGER DEBUTS AT ACP ANNUAL SESSION

SCOTTSDALE, Nov. 2 – ACP Messenger, a stylish, full-size, full-color, quarterly magazine aimed at consumer and member audiences, was unveiled before more than 1,200 members at the American College of Prosthodontists 41stAnnual Session.

“This is exactly what the doctor ordered,” said ACP President Jonathan P. Wiens, D.D.S., M.S., F.A.C.P. “The ACP Messenger starts a much-needed conversation with consumers while keeping members on top of the latest developments in the specialty.”

“I’ve heard nothing but raves from our member prosthodontists and guests from around the world attending the meeting in Scottsdale.”

Unlike the previous, inward-looking version of the ACP Messenger, the new ACP Messenger will have broad distribution: members’ waiting rooms, major city news media and members of Congress. “We intend to be heard,” said Dr. Wiens.

Every issue of the magazine will host content that makes advanced dentistry accessible. The November issue includes features about dental credentials and educational requirements to become a specialist. There is helpful advice about getting the most from dental insurance and straight talk about options if dental treatment therapy falls short of expectations.

A standing feature, “At the Chair,” spotlights technologies that make successful outcomes possible, and addresses common misunderstandings. For example, only smokers need oral cancer screenings, right? Not right. Screenings uncover cancer cells in smokers and non-smokers alike.

For the lay reader, the ACP Messenger is a window onto the complex world of dental care and the singular artistry that distinguishes smiles created by prosthodontists. The member will be invited to stay on top of the latest news about every aspect of the diverse, prosthodontic community.

The magazine showcases a remarkable, transformative, prosthodontic intervention every issue, along with articles on setting high standards and partnering with laboratories that deliver the highest quality. The ACP Education Foundation has a feature, “Inside ACPEF,” that explains the direction and activities of the foundation while giving recognition to donors.

ACP Messenger will showcase talented young prosthodontists, as well as outstanding dental laboratory technicians, members involved with community service and the latest news about oral health topics.

The most striking change about the ACP Messenger is the cover: full bleed, professional-quality color photo about how an ambitious restoration touched the entire family. Previous Messengers were traditional, internally focused quarterlies printed on lighter-weight paper. The interior design is contemporary and open, consistent with engaging consumer audiences.

Prosthodontists are among the most highly trained dentists in the world. Their training requires three additional years beyond a dental degree. These specialists provide implants, dentures, crowns and caps, partial dentures, bridges, tooth whitening and veneers. Prosthodontists also are known for full mouth reconstruction, some of the most complex and challenging cases.

The ACP is the only prosthodontic specialty organization whose membership is based solely on education credentials. ACP members must be in or have completed an ADA-accredited advanced education program in prosthodontics.
