Technique To Maintain The Correct Spatial Orientation Of The Maxillary Diagnostic Cast
Now online in the Journal of Prosthodontics, a report on a new technique to preserve the orientation of the maxillary diagnostic cast in full-mouth rehabilitations.
A common challenge in full‐mouth rehabilitation is preserving the correct spatial orientation of the maxillary diagnostic, diagnostic wax‐up and master casts within the dental articulator.
The issue of spatial errors has been traditionally addressed by permanently tattooing the skin with the locations of the true hinge axis and third reference point or by utilizing a cross-mounting technique.
The technique described can efficiently maintain the correct spatial relationship of the diagnostic, diagnostic wax-up, provisional restoration, and master casts. The entire procedure can be performed in the dental laboratory and requires the fabrication of only four partial provisional crowns and two plaster remount record indexes. The authors found this technique to be as, or more accurate than the traditional alternative methods.
